Will Bright Colours Be the New “Normal” in the Beauty World Post-Covid-19?

Find out the hair trends for 2021

Are we saying goodbye to neutrals in both hair and cosmetics post-Covid-19? According to L’Oréal Paris’s new CEO, Nicolas Hieronimus, says there has been a significant increase in L’Oréal Paris’s sales of more daring hair colours, (specifically bright blue hair dye) which could mean that more vivid make-up colours will also be trending soon. What do you think? Will we all be reaching for more intense eyeshadow palettes, lip colours, blushers, and nail varnishes once we are all free of this pandemic? ThEye digs deep to discover what the rest of the beauty world has to say about Mr. Hieronimus’s claims.

While glowing dewy skin and bold fluffy brows will continue to enjoy their high-ranking spots on the top beauty trends list for summer 2021(thank you quarantine skincare and eyebrow care obsession for that) bold eye-make-up looks, overdone rosy pink cheeks, striking lip colours, and fun colourful manicures are indeed also major post-covid trends to take note of. According to Urban Decay’s Global Make-up Artist, Steve Kassajikian, tie-dye inspired soft pastel eyeshadow looks will be huge for summer 2021. And we love that this summery look can still be easily worn with our facial masks (if still necessary).  Kassajikian says for the best results in trying to achieve this look, the key is to “apply an eyeshadow cream stick directly on the eyes and then buff it out to blend. Then apply powder shadows in yellows, pinks, oranges, and purples (or whatever colour combination you prefer) on top to create depth. Then finish it off with a duo-chrome or shimmer shade on the inner corner to brighten the eyes”.

Sir John, the L’Oréal Paris US Make-Up Artist and Creative Director as well as Beyoncé’s Personal Make-Up Artist, is even more optimistic and hopeful, and believes that if the rate of people getting vaccinated will continue to increase as already seen in the USA, mask regulations will be decreased allowing for “a serious summer of statement lips”. Sir John also says long-lasting and highly pigmented formulas are going to be a key indicator of which lipsticks exactly become the trendiest lipsticks for summer 2021. Favourite lipstick colour predictions include: classic cardinal reds, fiery coral oranges, fierce mahoganies, and punchy pink shades. Sephora’s beauty director David Razzano, seconded the notion. Stating “with so many people taking a break from lipstick in 2020, we are bound to see bold, bright lips make a triumphant return. It is an easy trend that polishes up any look and brightens your complexion as well as your mood”.

New York and Los Angeles based VIP nail stylist Elle, whose loyal clients include Blake Lively, Emilia Clarke, and Laverne Cox, predicts stylish multi-coloured manicures and pedicures to be a must-have for summer 2021. This particular nail style is characterized by the fact that each nail is painted in a different colour. Elle says “this is for those that want to make a bold statement and is an easy way to get attention directed towards your nails”. And the best part of this trend, that we at ThEye completely adore is, that you can take this trend and make it your own in so many ways. You can opt to stay within similar shades and hues for a more mellow transitional effect or you can use strongly contrasting colours for a playful and eye-catching look.

Or lastly follow Celebrity Make-Up Artist for stars like Selena Gomez and Katy Perry, Melissa Murdick’s beauty trend prediction, who says nothing wakes up your face and skin like a pop of a cheery pink cream blusher on your cheeks and top of the nose. “Applying blush on the cheeks and nose, that is the thing that people exaggerate, which I think is so cute. That kind of e-girl look with a super pinkie nose… I use mostly cream and liquid blush products just in general because they melt into the skin and allow your skin to really shine”. For pulling off this look, one of her product suggestions is Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Stay Vulnerable Melting Cream Blush (£15) in the shade nearly rose true pink. To apply just use your fingers, this blusher looks best when applied with your fingers, and softly tap the lightweight and satin consistency of this product onto cheeks and nose and then blend. It is super easy, fun, and totally summer 2021 approved.
